Vancouver Whitecaps FC had the spotlight for MLS Friday Night on TSN, as they hosted the LA Galaxy at BC Place.
With Zlatan Ibrahimovic coming to Vancouver for the first time, anticipation was high in British Columbia, and during TSN's halftime interview with Vancouver midfielder Felipe, he was asked about the "buzz" in the stadium with the big star playing and if he was having fun. The Brazilian didn't mince words.
"I think this is kind of sad because this is for him and it should be for us, because we play at home. Doesn't matter who comes here, got to come to support us and cheer harder for us, and not for the opponent," Felipe said. "I think that's the way it should be."
While the TSN broadcast emphasized the increased energy in the building, Friday's game was in fact the third consecutive home sellout in three games this season at BC Place for the Whitecaps, per a team spokesperson.
The game, which was deadlocked 0-0 at halftime, went south for Vancouver after the break, as Ibrahimovic scored a goal and tallied an assist in a 2-0 Galaxy win.
Perhaps unsurprisingly, given the result, Ibrahimovic complimented the crowd after the game.
“It was a good game, fantastic atmosphere," he told reporters. "Thanks to all the people who came out, hopefully they enjoyed the game. It was a good game for us also, especially the second half."
