Is it possible Zlatan Ibrahimovic is going under the radar a bit to start the 2019 season?
Ok, that may be a bit much, but the LA Galaxy attacker is off to a hot start this season, after scoring a goal and an assist in their 2-0 win over Vancouver Whitecaps FC as part of MLS Friday Night on TSN.
His goal, taking down a ball and shooting a wicked blast through traffic, showed Ibrahimovic is in fine form, according to Vancouver manager Marc Dos Santos.
"The only player who scores that goal in MLS is Ibra," Dos Santos said to reporters after the match. "The way he comes up and chests that ball, I don't see another player in the league scoring that type of goal."
In all, Ibrahimovic has four goals and one assist in three appearances for LA this season -- all wins. Injury sidelined the towering Swede for two of the Galaxy's five matches. His goal total puts him in a tie for second in the race for the Golden Boot presented by Audi.
There's a lot of season ahead, but given how well Ibrahimovic has played since joining the Galaxy, would you bet against the 37-year-old being in the Golden Boot reckoning come the end of the season? And it's worth noting that Ibrahimovic made it clear during the preseason that he wants to break the single-season goal record that Josef Martinez set last year.
