Ibrahimovic enjoying one of the most efficient seasons in league history

Zlatan Ibrahimovic 500th goal celebration

It's quite safe to say that Zlatan Ibrahimovic's maiden voyage into MLS play has been a success. But it may even go down in league history as one of the most efficient seasons for an MLS player, in terms of goal involvements per 90 minutes.

Ibrahimovic has 22 goals and 10 assists in 26 games (2,053 minutes), which averages out to a goal or assist every 64 minutes, or, 1.40 times per 90. As it stands, that's the highest G+A per 90 in league history, ahead of Diego Serna in 2001 (1.37) and Cobi Jones in 1998 (1.35).

As for sheer bottom line totals, per/90 rates be damned, Ibrahimovic is still near the top. He currently sits tied for sixth (with Diego Valeri's 2017 season). Two goal involvements on Decision Day presented by AT&T would move him into a tie for third. Meanwhile, Atlanta striker Josef Martinez sits in second, two goal involvements behind Sebastian Giovinco's 2015.
