Javier "Chicharito" Hernandez was acquired by the LA Galaxy to take over the goalscoring burden. Now you can add team leadership to that responsibility.
The Galaxy named Hernandez their captain, the club announced Friday. He takes the armband after Zlatan Ibrahimovic left this offseason.
Hernandez, 31, arrived in Los Angeles under much fanfare this offseason from Sevilla. He has more than 200 goals for club and country over his career, which has included stints at Chivas de Guadalajara, Manchester United, Real Madrid, Bayer Leverkusen and West Ham.
He's also Mexico's all-time leading scorer, with 52 goals and 109 caps. Hernandez will lead out the Galaxy for their season opener on Saturday against the Houston Dynamo (3:30 pm ET | Univision, MLS Live on DAZN).
