Javier “Chicharito” Hernandez is yet to play an official game for the LA Galaxy, but the soccer community in southern California is already showing love for the Mexican superstar.
A new mural in Venice Beach now prominently displays LA’s marquee offseason signing, with Hernandez’s arms outstretched in celebration. The 31-year-old forward even checked out the scene over the weekend.
The mural displays Hernandez alongside several Galaxy legends, all of whom are shown with their back to the viewer. They include US men’s national team legends Landon Donovan and Cobi Jones, Inter Miami CF owner David Beckham, three-time MLS Cup champion Robbie Keane and El Tri goalkeeping great Jorge Campos.
Those are lofty acts to follow, though the striker certainly brings an impressive pedigree as El Tri’s all-time leading scorer and a veteran of European clubs such as Manchester United, Real Madrid and Bayer Leverkusen. His first chance to back up the hype arrives this Saturday (3:30 pm ET | Univision, Twitter, TUDN, MLS LIVE on DAZN in Canada) when the Galaxy visit the Houston Dynamo for their 2020 MLS season opener.
