LA Galaxy playmaker Efrain Alvarez has already earned his fair share of praise in his young professional career and in Matchday 2 of the Under-17 Concacaf Championship, he added to his resume.
The 16-year-old is currently participating in the tournament with Mexico, as they hope to earn a spot in the U-17 World Cup later this year. After beating Jamaica 1-0 in their first match of the tournament, El Tri trounced Bermuda 5-0 on Friday, ensuring their spot in the Round of 16. Teams that reach the semifinal will book their place in the World Cup.
Mexico's opening goal came from Alvarez, whose took down a long ball with a deft touch and chipped it over the onrushing goalkeeper to give his team an early lead.
The Los Angeles-born Alvarez has been a regular for El Tri’s U-15s and U-17s since switching from the US youth national team system in 2016. He remains eligible to play for both nations, at least until he makes his debut for one of their senior teams in competitive play.
