TRANSFER TRACKER STATUS: Signings
After leaving the New York Cosmos to take over the Portland Timbers, head coach Giovanni Savarese is bringing one of his best players with him.
On Wednesday, the Timbers announced that they had signed midfielder Andres Flores, a 27-year-old El Salvador native who had 10 goals and 18 assists over the last four seasons with the Cosmos. Savarese and Flores claimed back-to-back NASL titles together in 2015 and 2016.
Prior to his arrival in the NASL, Flores played for Salvadoran club A.D. Isidro Metapan from 2009-14, registering 10 goals in 95 appearances. At the international level, the 5-foot-6 midfielder/forward has been capped 59 times by the El Salvador national team.
Also on Wednesday, the Timbers announced the signing of defender Modou Jadama, as well as the re-signing of New Zealand defender/midfielder Bill Tuiloma.
“As we continue preparations for the 2018 season, we are pleased to add Andres Flores and Modou Jadama to the roster, and to welcome back Bill Tuiloma for a second year,” Timbers general manager Gavin Wilkinson said in a release. “These players are very important additions to the roster and we look forward to each player’s contributions to the group this season.”
“Adding these three players to our team will provide quality competition at a number of positions and we are pleased to welcome them to the club for the 2018 season,” added Savarese.
Jadama, a 23-year-old native of Gambia, made 32 starts for the USL side Tulsa Roughnecks FC last year after playing professionally in Chile.
The 22-year-old Tuiloma, who’s earned 23 caps for the New Zealand national team, made 11 appearances (all starts) for Timbers affiliate T2 last year, scoring three times.
