Report: Portland Timbers midfielder Diego Valeri sustains torn ACL in win over FC Dallas

Portland Timbers star midfielder Diego Valeri suffered an apparent torn ACL during the team's season finale on Saturday, according to a media report in Portland two days after the team was eliminated from postseason contention.

According to a report in The Oregonian, Valeri has already undergone an MRI and was expected to undergo additional testing on Monday. A source told MLSsoccer.com that although the severity of the injury has not been confirmed by the club, the Timbers are expecting to receive news of the torn ACL following the tests performed on Monday.

Valeri went down in the 26th minute of Saturday’s 2-0 win over FC Dallas on a tackle from FCD's Andres Escobar. He remained in the game after being attended to by team trainers but was subbed out at halftime, and Timbers head coach Caleb Porter told television reporters at halftime that Valeri's knee was “pretty swollen.”

Valeri led the Timbers with 11 goals this season, a new single-season scoring mark for the franchise. He also added 14 assists, second most in the league.
