If the San Jose Earthquakes are to jump into the playoff picture, they will have to do so without Jordan Stewart.
The Earthquakes announced on Monday that the defender will be sidelined for the rest of the season after tearing his left Achilles tendon this weekend. Stewart suffered the injury in the first half of the Earthquakes' 1-0 win over the Colorado Rapids on Friday, and was subbed off in the 27th minute. He is expected to have an operation later this week.

In his third season in San Jose, the 33-year-old Stewart had made 13 starts in 14 league appearances and delivered one assist. He has appeared in a total of 56 matches, 54 as a starter, in his time at the club.
The news comes as a blow to Dom Kinnear's men, who are currently trying to move above the red line in the Western Conference. San Jose are currently in eighth place out West, six points shy of the final playoff spot.
