Coming off matching one-goal defeats, Sporting Kansas City and the San Jose Earthquakes look to rebound in a Western Conference meeting at Children's Mercy Park Saturday night.
Sporting Kansas City (7-11-7) dropped their second straight game, losing to Orlando City SC, 1-0, at Exploria Stadium Wednesday night. Tesho Akindele scored the lone goal in the 21st minute for the Lions to drop Sporting nine points below the playoff line in the West.
The Earthquakes (11-8-5) are in sixth place in the West following a shock 2-1 loss at the Colorado Rapids that snapped a five-match unbeaten streak. Vako canceled out Kellyn Acosta's opening goal with a 62nd-minute equalizer, but Diego Rubio scored the winner fo the Rapids 12 minutes later.
The Earthquakes won the first meeting this season, 4-1, at Avaya Stadium in late April. Danny Hoesen scored a brace inside the opening 12 minutes and Shea Salinas and Magnus Eriksson added second-half goals to extend the hosts lead to 4-0. Felipe Gutierrez scored the lone Sporting goal from the penalty spot in the 66th minute.
