Rosell, 30, has logged two goals and five assists in 125 MLS regular-season games played (100 starts) across eight seasons with Sporting Kansas City (2012-14, 2022) and Orlando City SC (2018-21). Notably, Rosell helped Sporting KC win the club’s second MLS Cup title in 2013, tallying one goal and two assists in 31 regular-season appearances (31 starts) that season.
During the 2022 campaign, Rosell logged one assist in 18 games played (13 starts) across 906 minutes played for Sporting KC. The Puig-Reig, Spain, native played four years with Orlando City, where he made 64 league appearances (48 starts) and logged two assists.
Prior to joining Orlando in 2018, Rosell spent four seasons in Portugal, featuring for Sporting Clube de Portugal (2014-18) and going on loan with Vitória Sport Clube (2016), Clube de Futebol Os Belenenses (2016-17) and Portimonense Sporting Clube (2017-18). Rosell began his career at La Masia, the youth academy of FC Barcelona, and went on to make his debut with Barcelona B in 2011.
Uri Rosell is in the midst of his second stint with Sporting Kansas City after playing with Portuguese powerhouse Sporting Lisbon and MLS side Orlando City SC. In his first go around with the club he helped Sporting KC to a 2013 MLS Cup title.
A native of Puig Reig, Catalonia, Spain, Rosell came up through FC Barcelona's world-renowned La Masia Academy, which he joined as a 14-year-old in 2006. He then joined Sporting in Aug. 2012 and helped guide the team to the 2013 MLS Cup title. He transferred to Sporting Lisbon in May 2010 and debuted in the UEFA Champions League for his new club. His trophy-winning ways followed him to Portugal as Sporting Lisbon went on to win the Taca de Portugal.
Sporting Lisbon loaned Rosell to Portuguese clubs Vitoria Guimaraes, Belenenses and Portimonense, respectively. He played 42 matches in the top-flight Portuguese Primeira Liga from 2014-2018 before returning to MLS. Rosell played in Orlando from 2018 through 2021 and returned to Kansas City after signing a contract with the club on Dec. 21, 2021.
Rosell was named to the Major League Soccer Players Association Executive Board in October 2022, becoming the first international player elected to the board.
2022: MLS Regular Season: Started 13 of 18 appearances (905 minutes played). Made his return to Sporting KC on Feb. 27, in the club's opening match of the season at Atlanta United, starting and playing 50 minutes. Earned his first win of the season on May 18 in a 2-1 home win over the Colorado Rapids. Open Cup: Started one of two appearances in the Open Cup (73 minutes played). Started in the Round of 16 win over the Houston Dynamo on May 25 and came on as a sub against Union Omaha on June 22.
Orlando City SC: (2018-2021):
Rosell signed for Orlando in January 2018 after the Lions had acquired the No. 1 position in the MLS Allocation Order from FC Dallas in exchange for $400,000 in Targeted Allocation Money. He appeared in 70 MLS matches and added two assists during his four-year stay in Orlando, helping the club to its first two playoff appearances in 2020 and 2021. Through his first seven MLS seasons, Rosell boasts a passing accuracy clip of 86.9% and a tackle success rate of 66.8%.
Sporting Lisbon: (2014-2018):
In his first season at Sporting Lisbon, Rosell earned his debuts in the UEFA Champions League—featuring in a group stage win over German side Schalke 04—and the UEFA Europa League, starting in a knockout round clash against German club Wolfsburg. He ended the 2014-15 campaign with 22 total appearances, including three in the Taça de Portugal as Sporting Lisbon won the prestigious domestic cup title with a team bolstered by former MLS All-Star Fredy Montero and eventual MLS All-Star Nani.
Over the next three seasons, Sporting Lisbon loaned Rosell to Portuguese clubs Vitoria Guimaraes, Belenenses and Portimonense, respectively. He played 42 matches in the top-flight Portuguese Primeira Liga from 2014-2018 before returning to MLS.
Sporting Kansas City (2012-2014):
2014: MLS regular season: Started seven matches for Sporting KC before transferring to Sporting Lisbon in June (594 minutes played).
2013: MLS regular season: Started 31 matches for Sporting, scored once and added two assists (2691 minutes played). Scored in his first start of the season, a 3-1 win over the Philadelphia Union on March 2. Tallied his first Sporting KC assist in a 4-0 win over Chivas USA on May 5, setting up a CJ Sapong score. Assisted CJ Sapong once more later in the season on Sept. 7 in a 3-0 win over the Columbus Crew. MLS Cup Playoffs: Started all five of Sporting's playoff matches as they made a run to the 2013 MLS Cup Final (398 minutes played). Started both of Sporting's matches against the New England Revolution as they knocked off the New England side 4-3 on aggregate. Began both Eastern Conference Semifinals against the Houston Dynamo which ended in a 2-1 win for Sporting on aggregate. Started the 2013 MLS Cup Final. Open Cup: Started one of two Open Cup appearances (104 minutes played).
2012: Signed with Sporting Kansas City and debuted for the club on Aug. 11 against D.C. United. MLS Regular Season: Started one of five appearances and scored one goal (127 minutes played). Scored his first Sporting KC and MLS goal in a 2-1 victory over Toronto FC on Nov. 1. MLS Cup Playoffs: Started one of two appearances (90 minutes played). Started in Sporting's 1-0 win over the Houston Dynamo but the team bowed out of the playoffs after that match on a 2-1 aggregate scoring loss.
Barcelona B and FC Barcelona (2008-2012):
Born and raised in Puig Reig, Catalonia, Spain, Rosell joined FC Barcelona’s famous La Masia academy as a 14-year-old in 2006. Debuted professionally for FC Barcelona B in January 2012.
INTERNATIONAL:
On the international stage, Rosell was called up by the unofficial Catalonia national team in 2013 and made one appearance.
