After missing D.C. United’s first 12 games of the year, it looks like goalkeeper Bill Hamid is ready for his first start of the season.
United head coach Ben Olsen told reporters on Wednesday that Hamid will “probably” start in D.C.’s match at Sporting Kansas City on Friday night (9:30 pm ET; UDN in the US, MLS LIVE in Canada).
The 2014 MLS Goalkeeper of the Year, Hamid, 25, hasn’t played a game since having surgery to repair a meniscus tear in his right knee in January. He returned to full training two weeks ago, but hasn’t yet made an appearance on a gameday roster in 2016.
Second-year goalkeeper Travis Worra has started 11 of United’s 12 games in Hamid’s absence, posting four shutouts and allowing 10 goals. Andrew Dykstra started D.C.’s opener but has been sidelined since he had surgery on March 18.
