New York City FC loanee Frank Lampard stretchered off with thigh injury vs. Tottenham, set for scans

Frank Lampard stretchered off vs. Tottenham

Saturday morning went from joyous to worrying for New York City FC fans, as on-loan Designated Player Frank Lampard was stretchered off in the first half of Manchester City's 4-1 victory against Tottenham.

Lampard set up the first Manchester goal with a pass to Sergio Aguero and put the striker in position to draw a penalty on the second before pulling up in the 26th minute with a thigh injury. Man City manager Manuel Pellegrini said Lampard will have a scan this weekend.

"Frank has a muscle injury," Pellegrini told Sky Sports. "We will see on Sunday after the scan but, for the moment, he will not travel to Russia."

Over seven appearances with the Blues, Lampard has scored four goals and been a creative driver in the defending English Premier League champions midfield.

Earlier this week, he told the Manchester Evening News that his loan runs out in January and there were no current plans to extend it.

“I am contracted here until January,” Lampard said. “I am enjoying every minute of training at this level and being able to get game time. That is as far as it goes at the moment… Speculation has come because of a couple of goals. But at the moment there is nothing to be said.”
