Real Salt Lake will have to finish out the season without one of their core starters.
The team announced on Thursday that defender Chris Schuler has undergone surgery to repair a navicular fracture in his left foot and is expected to be out 4-6 months.
Schuler, 28, is in his sixth season with RSL. Injuries have limited him to just six appearances across all competitions this season, helping them to a 3-1-2 record in those appearances.

"He's in good spirits," Real Salt Lake general manager Craig Waibel said in a team statement. "He's in a good spot to recover and surgery went extremely well. We look forward to having him back in the mix next season."
RSL currently sit in 10th place in the Western Conference, nine points out of the final playoff position.
