Seattle Sounders midfielder Osvaldo Alonso undergoes successful right groin surgery, will begin rehab immediately

The Seattle Sounders announced Saturday that midfielder Osvaldo Alonso has undergone successful right groin surgery. The procedure was preformed by Dr. William Hutchinson Jr. on Friday, February 6 in Santa Monica, California. Alonso is set to begin rehabilitation immediately following the procedure.

Alonso, a 29-year-old Designated Player for the Rave Green, has amassed 172 regular-season MLS appearances for the club (168 starts) since 2009, recording six goals and 14 assists in that span. The Cuban midfielder was named the Sounders' Most Valuable Player during four consecutive seasons from 2010-2013, while starting all 33 matches he appeared in during the 2014 campaign.  



After a nine-day training camp in Southern California, the Sounders returns to their preseason preparations on Monday, February 9 at Starfire Sports. Sigi Schmid's side is scheduled to train at its Tukwila-based facility through February 14, before departing for a two-week training stint in Tucson, Arizona from February 15 through March 1.
