Jozy Altidore could be back on the pitch for Toronto FC as early as Wednesday as he works through the final stages of his recovery from a hamstring injury.
Those were the encouraging words of head coach Greg Vanney after TFC’s 2-0 road win over Orlando City SC on Saturday.
“Jozy’s getting close. He wasn’t a gametime [decision] today,” said Vanney. “He’ll be questionable for Wednesday, probably likely for Saturday. We’ll see. We’re going to be smart with Jozy, but we want to get him back and ready to go full speed.”
One of Toronto’s most influential pieces, Altidore has already bagged five goals and two assists in five appearances this season (four starts). He strained his hamstring in a 4-3 victory over Minnesota United on Apr. 19.
The Reds visit Atlanta United in a meeting of the past two MLS Cup champions on Wednesday night, then host the in-form Philadelphia Union on Saturday at BMO Field (Full TV and streaming info).
