Real Madrid midfielder and Portugal national team captain Cristiano Ronaldo left a league game early on Wednesday due to an apparent injury.
After just eight minutes, the reigning FIFA Ballon d'Or winner left a match against Valladolid, though the type of injury was not immediately apparent. Journalist Guillem Balague tweeted, "Ronaldo only has muscular fatigue..." There has been no official word as to the severity of the injury at this point, however.
The injury, as well as recent problems with Cristiano Ronaldo's left leg, comes at a crucial time, with Real Madrid in the Champions League final, set to be played on May 24 in Lisbon, Portugal. In addition, they are in the thick of the league race, with Real Madrid battling local rivals Atlético Madrid as well as FC Barcelona for the title.
CR7 himself is approaching 50 games played across all competitions this season, and has scored 50 goals.
He and Portugal are set to face the US national team in Group G action at the World Cup next month as well. Though Portugal are projected by many to advance from the group, Ronaldo is expected to play a major role in not only advancing from the group but also making a deep run in Brazil.
