American Exports: Terrence Boyd, Danny Williams reach encouraging milestones on injury comebacks

Danny Williams breaks away from two defenders with Reading

AMSTERDAM – RB Leipzig striker Terrence Boyd took an important step on the road to recover from a preseason anterior cruciate ligament injury on Tuesday, receiving the doctor's go-ahead to rejoin full training.

Though it remains unclear if the US international will be involved in Friday's friendly against amateur side Kickers Markkleeberg, both the striker and his club announced the good news via Twitter on Tuesday.

Boyd, who arrived from Rapid Vienna this summer, was injured in a July 26 friendly with Queens Park Rangers.

Boyd is not the only one of Jurgen Klinsmann's US national team charges in the act of fighting for a belated season debut. Both AZ Alkmaar forward Aron Jóhannsson and Reading midfielder Daniel Williams made partial returns to training last week.

The former is on his way back from a groin injury suffered during rehab for a knee setback, while Williams made an important step in his post-knee surgery rehab by resuming individual field drills.

"My knee is getting better, and I'm getting stronger," he told Get Reading on Tuesday. "Hopefully, I'll be running again soon and could be back training by the start of November."
