Two keys to FC Dallas' fast start went under the knife this week – one expected and one by necessity – and neither is expected to be back at Oscar Pareja's disposal anytime soon.
Midfielder Hendry Thomas suffered a muscle tear in his right leg during Saturday’s 2-1 loss in San Jose, and had a procedure to drain fluid from the injury on Monday, the club announced. He is expected to miss the next six to eight weeks.
Thomas was replaced by Jair Benítez in the 73rd minute against the Earthquakes. He has started nine of 11 matches for Dallas this season after arriving via trade from Colorado.

Playmaker Mauro Díaz, meanwhile, underwent a successful arthroscopic procedure to remove a piece of loose cartilage from his right knee on Tuesday, with estimated recovery time set for six to 10 weeks.
The 23-year-old Argentine suffered the injury during a 4-1 loss to D.C. United on April 26. Through the first eight games of 2014, he scored three goals and tallied three assists, earning MLS Player of the Month honors for March.
FC Dallas are next in action when they host Chivas USA on Saturday at Toyota Stadium (8:30 pm ET, MLS LIVE).
