Just as FC Dallas appear to be getting their health in order, the team was dealt another blow with the loss of Hendry Thomas for the rest of the 2014 season.
FCD announced on Monday that the Honduran midfielder underwent surgery to repair a torn ACL in his left knee. Thomas suffered the injury in the 28th minute of a 5-2 win over the Carolina RailHawks in the quarterfinals of the US Open Cup on July 9.
The 29-year-old defensive midfielder had only just recovered from a previous injury – a torn muscle in his right thigh suffered in May that kept him sidelined for seven league games.
Thomas was a regular in Oscar Pareja's lineup from the beginning of the 2014 season before the first injury, and made only 22 minutes of cameo duty as a substitute in a July 4 win over Philadelphia in league play before suffering the ACL injury just days later at Carolina.
His recovery period is expected to be six to eight months, according to the club.
Thomas arrived in Dallas after a trade with Colorado on Feb. 12, 2014. He began his career with Club Deportivo Olimpia of the Honduran first division in 2001. He appeared in the 2010 World Cup and the 2008 Olympics for Honduras. His most recent cap came in September of 2011.
