US Under-20 national team midfielder Emerson Hyndman will reportedly miss up to six weeks after suffering a broken collarbone in the Yanks’ World Cup qualifying win Saturday over El Salvador.
A report by Goal USA’s Ives Galarcep also indicates that the injury could hinder Hyndman’s chances of regaining his starting role with English Championship side Fulham FC. With a projected return of late March or early April, the injury could also affect his preparations for the upcoming FIFA U-20 World Cup, which starts in late May.
Tab Ramos' US squad is slated to begin preparing for the tournament with a camp in late March.
The 18-year-old Hyndman, grandson of former FC Dallas coach Schellas Hyndman and a former member of the club's youth system, started the final five games and scored a goal for the US in the CONCACAF U-20 Championship in Jamaica. He joined the Fulham youth ranks in 2011, making his senior-team debut earlier this season.
